Jesús I. Valles is a queer Mexican immigrant, educator, storyteller, and performer based in Providence RI, originally from Cd. Juarez, México. Jesús is a recipient of the 2018 Undocupoets Fellowship, a fellow of The Poetry Foundation and Crescendo Literary’s 2018 Poetry Incubator, the 2018 Fund the Change grant, the runner-up in the 2017 Button Poetry Chapbook Contest, and a finalist of the 2016 Write Bloody Poetry Contest. Their work has been published in The Shade Journal, The Texas Review, The New Republic, and Harvard’s Palabritas. As an actor, Jesús is a recipient of two B. Iden Payne awards for Outstanding Actor in Theater for Youth in 2016 and 2017. Jesús is also the winner of the 2018 B. Iden Payne Awards for Outstanding Original Script and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama. They are currently an MFA student in playwriting at Brown University.
